We’re currently recruiting for cafe assistants to work at the busy Pathfinder Cafe. Refurbished in 2021, the cafe was brought in house and is the hub of the airport. Over 90% of our customers are not pilots or passengers, they return time after time because of our great food, reasonably priced, in a stunning location. We’re popular with all age ranges.

Our core team of chefs and weekday staff have regular working patterns, and are supplemented on weekends by an additional flexible team. Our business is seasonal, and in the school holidays and generally over the summer, our weekend team often work weekday shifts too.

In 2026 we’ve seen phenomenal demand, and so we’re growing our team, both with weekend and weekday Cafe Assistants.

We’re looking for friendly, hard working individuals, who will deliver a great service to our customers, and integrate with tight-knit team who make the Pathfinder Cafe such a fantastic place to work.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary role of the Café Assistant is to assist in the provision of high-quality food served in a timely manner, with great customer service. 

Duties associated with this include: 

  • Supporting the smooth running of the front of house and kitchen as a part of a small team. 

  • Providing the highest standards of customer welcome and care when assisting customers at the counter or table 

  • Giving advice, guidance and recommendations on products and menu selection to customers to ensure a positive experience and repeat business. 

  • Ensuring adequate stock levels of supplies and consumables for café area. 

  • Preparing and serving of hot and cold beverages, cakes and other food items. 

  • Service of food from the kitchen to table.

  • Keeping the areas tidy and clean including table clearing, removing dirties and waste. This will include assisting in the kitchen with cleaning, and ensuring the bathrooms are kept clean. 

  • Responsible for security (product and cash), taking payments. 

  • Keeping up to date with special promotions and creating displays. 

  • Washing up, and on occasion assisting with food preparation.

SHIFT SYSTEM & Roster

The Pathfinder Cafe will be open daily from 08:00-16:00. There are typically 4 types of shifts available on weekends:

  • Full Day shifts from 07:30-16:30

  • Day shifts from 08:00-16:30

  • Early shifts from 08:30-13:30

  • Mid shifts from 09:30-14:30

  • Late shifts from 10:30-15:30

The cafe roster is published once a month. You’ll let us know your available / unavailable days on or around the 10th of the month for the following calendar month. We will use this availability to allocate shifts and publish the roster on or around the 20th for the following calendar month. Once published, we commit to those shifts to you, even if our needs change, likewise we expect our team to reliably work their shifts once the roster has been published.

We are looking for people that can commit at least 1 weekend day a week regularly.

Occasionally some evening shifts will be available when functions are booked at the Cafe.

REMUNERATION

For the 2026-27 period:

New employees under 21 will receive £10.85 per hour, increasing once you’ve reached 1 year’s service.

New employees over 21, or those with 1 year’s service (if younger): £13.06 per hour

All rates are reviewed annually on 1 April each year.

In addition to the hourly rate, you’ll receive a holiday allowance equal to 12.07% of your hourly rate.

Benefits

Staff receive 50% off all food and non-alcoholic drinks in the cafe. Staff on shift may have free barista coffee (if they make it!)

Blackbushe Airport provides an Auto-Enrolment Pension Scheme in which the company contributes 3% of the employee’s salary, and the employee contributes 5% of their salary.

ANYTHING ELSE?

We can only consider applicants who are aged 16 of over and of “School Leaving Age”, therefore must have completed their GCSEs.

Due to the rural location of the role, you will need your own transport.

You must also provide evidence that you are legally entitled to work in the UK.
