Honouring our past. Building our future.
Today marks a new chapter for Blackbushe Airport
If you visit Blackbushe Airport today, you'll notice that things look a little different.
Across the airport, our signage, vehicles, uniforms, website and digital channels have all been refreshed as part of the launch of our new visual identity.
Alongside the new Blackbushe Airport brand, we're also introducing Blackbushe Flight Training, the new name for our flying school, together with a refreshed identity for the Pathfinder Café. Our Fire Service and Air Traffic Service have not been left out either, with both receiving their own updated logos as part of a consistent family of brands across the airport group.
This is the most significant evolution of our visual identity in 84 years of operating.
However, this is about far more than introducing a new logo.
It is about ensuring our identity reflects the airport that Blackbushe has become.
Why now?
Our previous branding had served us well for many years, why change it?
The answer is simple.
Blackbushe Airport has changed.
Not overnight, but steadily.
Over recent years we've resolved the long-standing common land issue that has halted development for over 60 years. We’ve invested in improving facilities, enhancing the customer experience and strengthening the businesses that make up the airport. Today, we're delivering the most significant investment in our infrastructure for many years through the construction of our long-awaited hangars, while continuing to develop our services and create an airport that's ready for the future.
As the airport evolved, it became clear that our visual identity no longer reflected who we are today or where we're heading.
A design inspired by Blackbushe
From the outset, we wanted our new identity to have a genuine connection to the airport.
Rather than creating a symbol that could belong to any business, we looked to Blackbushe's own history for inspiration.
At the heart of the new logo is a symbol derived from the airport's original three-runway layout, constructed during the Second World War. Viewed from above, those three runways naturally create the form of a letter ‘b’, providing a subtle link between the airport's heritage and its name.
It's a detail that many people may not notice immediately, but that's intentional. The design isn't meant to be a literal illustration. Instead, it's a quiet reference to the history that has shaped Blackbushe for more than eighty years.
The colour palette also has a story to tell
For Blackbushe Airport, we've introduced a combination of copper and black. The copper takes its inspiration from the architectural cladding of our new hangars, which will become a defining feature of the airport later this year. Combined with black, it creates a modern, confident identity that reflects both the quality of the airport today and the ambition we have for its future.
The result is a brand that draws inspiration from both our past and our future.
One airport - One family of brands
While each part of Blackbushe Airport serves a different purpose, they are all part of the same airport community.
Our refreshed identity has therefore been designed as a family of brands. Each has its own distinctive character, while sharing a common design language that clearly connects it back to Blackbushe Airport.
As part of today's launch, Blackbushe Aviation becomes Blackbushe Flight Training.
The new name better reflects what the business offers, making it immediately clear to prospective pilots where they can begin their flying journey. While the name and branding have evolved, the experienced instructors, welcoming atmosphere and commitment to high-quality training remain exactly the same.
Blackbushe Flight Training also retains its familiar navy and pink colour palette. It has become well recognised and remains an important part of the school's identity.
The Pathfinder Café has also been refreshed while retaining its established black and stainless-steel palette. The café has become a destination in its own right for pilots, aviation enthusiasts, families and members of the local community, and its new identity reflects both its character and its place within the wider Blackbushe family.
Our Airport Fire Service and Air Traffic Service have also received refreshed logos, recognising the professionalism of the teams that keep Blackbushe operating safely every day.
Together, these identities create a consistent and recognisable family of brands while allowing each business and service to retain its own personality.
More than a new look
A visual identity is only ever part of the story.
What defines Blackbushe Airport are the people who work here, the businesses based here, the pilots who fly here, the students who learn here and the visitors who choose to spend time here.
Our new identity is simply a reflection of the airport we've been building over many years.
It represents continued investment, confidence in the future and a commitment to creating an airport that respects its heritage while continuing to evolve.
Looking ahead
Today's launch marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Blackbushe Airport.
While our new branding will be immediately visible across the airport, it represents just one part of a much broader programme of investment and improvement. As work continues on our new hangars and other developments across the site, our focus remains unchanged. We will continue investing in our facilities, supporting our customers and creating a professional, welcoming airport for everyone who flies, works, learns or visits here.
Whether you're one of our long-stranding residents, arriving for a flight, taking your first flying lesson, enjoying breakfast at the Pathfinder Café or simply visiting for the day, we look forward to welcoming you to the next chapter of Blackbushe Airport.
Thank you to VivaEsprit creative team for their help in developing our new brand identity.
